Dubai: Dubai Police's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested a five-member gang for allegedly stealing more than 32 kilos of gold worth Dh3.2 million from a jewellery shop where some of the gang members worked.

The shop's legal affairs manager reported to Naif Police Station that some employees committed a breach of trust by stealing the gold. He accused J.R., R.R., and J.S., all Arab nationals, of the theft which was discovered after an inventory was conducted.

The CID set up a team to arrest the suspects, and the first and second suspects were arrested. The second suspect, R.R. confessed that he used to take the gold out of the shop and give it to the fifth suspect, J.S. The third suspect, A.S., a woman, was assigned with taking the gold out of the country, while the fourth suspect, K.M. used to melt the stolen gold and deliver it to the fifth suspect. Police also recovered the stolen gold.

Brigadier Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Director of the CID, urged shop owners to ask potential employees for certificates of good conduct from their own countries as well as from the UAE, to make sure they have a good record. He commended the department's staff for solving such cases without any delay.

Lieutenant Colonel Ahmad Al Merri, Director of the Criminal Investigation Section, recommended that shop owners carry out a daily inventory of precious items.
